Legal Eagle XL ORV with Verner 3V
Update on progress of the Verner 3V 3 cylinder radial. I have been making changes and fine tuning. Thru a series of events found hole in intake tube to #2 cylinder, a manufacturing defect, It is made of carbon fiber and on backside of turn into cylinder, not an easy place to see or work, it appeared the matting was not in place when laid up and end result opening. Factory immediately sent new intake tubes and I installed. This allowed carb to be adjusted to lean on LO and HI sides by about 1/4 turn LO and 1/2 turn HI. Yesterday I got a 1.2 hour flight in, fuel useage was 2.6 gph at 2150 rpm, it was over 3. I believe HI side can be leaned a bit more to get down to 2.5 or 2.4, great news. During this process also installed an Electronic International EGT/CHT, bit pricey but very accurate and very quick acting. temperatures are study as a rock, CHT remained at 254 with EGT at 875 during cruise and max of 1100 on climb out. Total time on engine now is 30.3 hours. Maximum rpm i seeing with the 67x30 prop is 2380 on climb out and about 2450 straight and level.
